Privacy Policy

Who we are

We operate an online website, The Best Books, whose address is http://thebestbooks.in. We don’t have any physical existence. We provide literary content in text format for our readers and audience.

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and the browser user agent string to help detect spam.

An anonymised string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

We upload media on our website. Audiences and visitors cannot upload any media on our website. At times, media uploaded by us may be hosted on platforms other than ours – such as any image-hosting website or YouTube. Once you interact with those media items, such as YouTube videos, they may access your Google account-associated data.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt to save your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience, so you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves like the visitor has visited another website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who do we share your data with?

The data about your user agent, IP address and other user preferences may be sent to third parties. One is Google Adsense, a plugin that shows ads according to your preferences when you visit the website. If you want to know more about Google’s use of the data they obtain, here is a link to the detailed disclosure: https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites

How long will we retain your data?

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This allows us to automatically recognise and approve any follow-up comments instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

We store the personal information provided by users who register on our website (if any) in their user profiles. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights do you have over your data?

If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you provided. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where is your data sent?

An automated spam detection service may check visitors’ comments.
